We're doing this again, folks -- With images of what Hurricane Helene did in the Big Bend area, Georgia and the western Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center has begun advisories in Tropical Depression 14. It's currently in the western Gulf of Mexico, and forecasts it to move eastward to affect Florida as a hurricane. The name would be Milton
This is a very uncommon weather pattern for a storm to track east over the bulk of the Gulf into Florida.
As of right now -- and these are the four and five-day forecasts, which can have some error -- the projected path shows a landfall sometime on Wednesday near Tampa Bay and moving east-northeast through the state as a high-end Category 2 storm with 110 mph maximum sustained winds. This would bring likely hurricane impacts to the Osceola County area late on Wednesday into Thursday.
The NHC said in the first storm discussion that, "This forecast is near the intensity consensus aids but some upward adjustment may be required as it lies a little below the regional hurricane models."
So, expect some changes in the forecast moving forward -- and GET PREPARED, OSCEOLA.
