There will be several events held throughout the community prior to the first day of school (Aug. 12) to provide new school supplies to those who need but can’t afford them.
• July 31, Osceola Heritage Park/Extension Services
Starting at 9:30 a.m., Commissioner Cheryl Grieb invites K-12 students to receive a free backpack for the upcoming school year at this drive-thru event. Free backpacks will be distributed to the first 350 students. School students must be present in the vehicle and accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• July 31, Archie Gordon Park
Starting at 10 a.m. until supplies are exhausted, District 2 County Commissioner Viviana Janer invites students to pick up backpacks and supplies with their families.
• July 31, T-Mobile
Locations at 1910 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee, and 1724 13th St. in St. Cloud. From 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. Families must pre-register (go to the Osceola County Backpack Giveaway Facebook event page for a link).
Thanks to a host of local sponsors, the event will feature giveaways, raffles and barbers onsite providing free haircuts to students. A Title 1 Specialist will be onsite at both locations providing information for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
• Aug. 1, TCC Wireless Zone
Between 1-4 p.m., families from St. Cloud are invited to visit TCC store at 4879 E. U.S. 192 to pick up a backpack ffilled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more to prepare for the upcoming school year. The store will donate up to 150 backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis. TCC stores are donating 140,000 backpacks full of school supplies during its ninth annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.
• Aug. 7, Downtown Kissimmee
Kissimmee Main Street’s annual free Back 2 School Block Party and school supply stroll. Come to Historic Downtown Kissimmee from 5-7 p.m. for backpacks and supplies giveaway alongside merchants and vendors.
