The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed a woman was killed trying to cross U.S. Highway 192 Thursday morning just west of St. Cloud.

According to the FHP report, just before 9 a.m. the 54-year-old Kissimmee woman was attempting to cross the road, not within a crosswalk, from St. Cloud Villages Commons when she was struck in the eastbound lanes by a Kia Cadenza driven by a 31-year-old Kissimmee woman. The pedestrian entered the direct path of the vehicle, was struck in the outside travel lane and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver notified law enforcement of the collision, the report said, noting she has cooperated with investigators gathering evidence on scene.

Law enforcement shut down the eastbound lanes U.S. 192 from Simmons Road to Sgt. Boyd Graham Boulevard during the investigation for the morning into the afternoon, diverting traffic onto Lakeshore Boulevard, Neptune Road or Florida's Turnpike.

Earlier this morning, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office discovered the body and turned over the investigation to Florida Highway Patrol.
