Stay cool this summer at Ice Factory.

The year-round, indoor ice skating rink on Partin Settlement Road is a one-of-a-kind in Kissimmee. The facility offers indoor ice skating and entertainment for skaters of all ages.

“We’ve been here for 20 years,” said William Highfield, who has managed the facility since 2009. “There’s absolutely no reason for anyone not to give (ice skating) a try.”

The rink for freestyle skating is open to the public, daily, with a $12 price for general admission. Skates can be rented for $2.

Ice Factory also offers a special Family Night rate, perfect for a weekend night out.

For $45, a family with up to five members can receive admission, standard skate rentals, one whole pizza (your choice of cheese or pepperoni) and one pitcher of soda.

Family Night happens Saturday nights from 8 to 11 p.m., and Sunday nights from 6 to 9 p.m.

“It’s a great way for families to get off the couch, away from the TV and get a little bit of exercise,” said Highfield.

And compared to other family activities in the county, Highfield says the facility’s Family Night rate is a great deal.

“There’s no better deal in Osceola County,” he said.

In addition to ice skating, Ice Factory offers youth hockey lessons.

Every Saturday morning, kids ages 10-13 can work with certified coaches to develop strong hockey skills. The cost is $125 for eight sessions. The first lesson is free, and gear may be supplied for the first lesson.

Kids ages 14-17 can learn hockey by joining the adult skills clinic, which meets on Monday nights at 8:30 p.m.

Highfield said the class is made up mostly of students who have never been out on the ice — from children of parents who skated on the ice during their childhood up north, to children of parents who have never been out on ice themselves — the class is truly for learners of every level.

“Most of the time the kids who walk through the door have never even seen ice before,” said Highfield. “But I tell the kids all of the time, ‘You need to try new things.’”

And just for the summer, Ice Factory is adding to the fun by hosting weekly camps.

From June 3 to Aug. 10, kids ages 5-13 can enjoy weekly summer camps with daily ice skating, dress up days, hockey fun, treasure hunts, arts and crafts, and two 30-minute skating lessons. The weekly fee is $99 and there is a $25 registration fee.

“Here, you’re on the ice for multiple hours, with professional coaches on staff,” said Highfield. “But it’s not a regimented camp, and we don’t make the kids do anything they don’t want to do or feel comfortable with.”
