Kissimmee Main Street and Gallery One Artists teamed up to host the 2018 Sculpture Awards on Friday.

Diana Marrero-Pinto, Kissimmee Main Street executive director, awarded 2018 People’s Choice winner, Christi Kapp, with a $500 check at the event.

“We welcome all artists to participate in this,” said Marrero-Pinto. “But it’s great to celebrate a local artist as our winner.”

The People’s Choice Award comes straight from the people. Each year, residents and visitors of downtown Kissimmee can pick up a map of the area’s sculptures, visit each location, and then vote on their favorite piece.

This year, all but one vote went towards Kapp’s sculpture of a horse named Cricket.

“I’m excited to win,” said Kapp. “I’ve never won this award before.”

Kapp first participated in the Sculpture Awards in 2014. In fact, that first entry was her first sculpture ever. She enjoyed other types of art, but had never really considered sculpting.
