I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again — if you like piña coladas, you’ll love what’s coming to Margaritaville Resort Orlando.
Opening day is finally approaching for the Central Florida Jimmy Buffett-themed resort, and the excitement is definitely at a high.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Margaritaville Resort Orlando is the first place in Orlando where guests can experience the amenities of a premium hotel (or cottage), more than 35 dining options, retail, a movie theater, a water park and more, all within walking distance from their room.
The resort is designed on 300 acres for the ultimate vacation destination — providing guests with enough entertainment to never leave the resort during their stay.
This Orlando setting isn’t quite the first of its kind. There are 14 other locations part of this global lifestyle brand, all mapped across the Southeast United States and Caribbean. There are also 20 additional locations in the pipeline.
The brand announced its Orlando project in August 2015.
Building for Margaritaville Resort Orlando began in July 2017, right here in Osceola County. The destination is located at 8000 Fins Up Circle, Kissimmee.
The next big milestone came in August 2018, when Margaritaville Resort Orlando announced the hiring of its general manager, Scott Robbins.
The Osceola News-Gazette sat down with Robbins shortly after the big announcement, to learn more about his expertise in the market and what he plans to bring to Orlando.
During the Q&A — which you can find at AroundOsceola.com — Robbins said he spent the last 20 years working in the Caribbean and the last eight years opening six all-inclusive resorts building their own brand. He was involved in the Margaritaville Restaurants and clubs in Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and Grand Cayman.
And if that’s not enough to bring to the table, he’s even dined with Jimmy Buffett himself. Ten years ago, Robbins and his wife had dinner with Jimmy Buffett at the Firefly Estate in Jamaica.
The brand hosted a job fair in November 2018 to continue adding to the Margaritaville Resort Orlando team. Employees were hired for positions in leadership, recreation, culinary, engineering, reception and more.
But that wasn’t the only exciting event to happen that month — the brand also officially announced its water park, Island H20 Live!. The water park will open this spring, and expects to be home to nine different thrill rides, a lazy river, a wave pool, a kids’ area and a family river raft ride. You can read more about Island H20 Live! in the News-Gazette’s article, “Island H20 Live! to make waves at Margaritaville.”
Another big announcement was made in December 2018, when SiriusXM Radio Margaritaville announced that it will be opening on the resort grounds at Sunset Walk — the official retail, dining and entertainment headquarters of Margaritaville Resort Orlando. The island-inspired channel is celebrating its 20th anniversary of being the “official vacation soundtrack,” with a hand-crafted mix of music inspired by Jimmy Buffett and the Margaritaville brand. The SiriusXM channel features music with a mix of Buffett, reggae, rock, island, country and folk, and includes exclusive live broadcasts of all of Jimmy Buffett’s official concerts.
This is just one part of Sunset Walk to open, as the development continues to open in phases. The first opening phase began in 2018, when Rock N’ Brews opened its doors to all rock and roll fans.
Margaritaville Resort Orlando is expected to host its official ribbon cutting ceremony later this month. Stay tuned for more.
