A big announcement was made this morning, as Disney Parks, Experiences and Products shared its opening date for two of the most anticipated theme park areas.
The areas — both named “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” — will open at Disneyland Park (California) on May 31, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World (Florida) on Aug. 29.
Both areas are 14 acres, making this Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever.
“Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” will transport guests to “live their own Star Wars adventures,” according to a Disney press release, as the new Walt Disney World area is expected to open in phases.
The first phase, opening Aug. 29, will transport guests to the remote planet of Batuu — with unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes. There will be themed food, beverages and merchandise, as well as the immersive first ride: “Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.”
There is no opening date yet for phase two, but Disney announced that the second phase of “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” will open later this year. This will include the opening of the second ride, “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” — which Disney is calling the “most ambitious, immersive and advances attraction ever imagined.”
It was noted in the release, that Disney chose to open the section in phases so guests could sooner enjoy the new area.
