Teen arrested for pointing laser at Sheriff’s Office helicopter

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Kissimmee teenager Tuesday after he allegedly shined a laser light at a law enforcement helicopter.
Detraun Vaughan, 14, of 658 Captiva Drive, Kissimmee, was charged with misuse of a laser pointing device.
At approximately 8:31 p.m., the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit was in the area of Sanibel Drive in Kissimmee, when deputies observed an unknown individual point a laser light at them.
“Deputies were able to locate the source of the laser, which was coming from 658 Captiva Circle,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said.
When they arrived at the home, deputies spoke with the homeowner who said her son had recently purchased a laser light. They questioned her son, identified as Detraun Vaughan and he cooperated with the investigation.
Based on his statements and the evidence, Vaughan was arrested and taken to the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center where he was released to his parents’ custody.
“Laser beams may cause eye damage or distraction,” Lizasuain said.
The charge of misuse of a laser-pointing device is a third degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison or a $5,000 fine.
Kissimmee man killed in Osceola crash
A Kissimmee man was killed in a crash on Thursday after losing control of the vehicle he was driving.
At about 10:45 a.m., the 20-year-old driver was heading southbound on Macey Island Road in a 2013 Ford Focus, near Kings Crest Road. For an unknown reason, he lost control of the car and went off the road.
The front of the car then hit a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at Osceola Regional Medical Center.
It was unknown if he was wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
Suspect arrested for 20 counts of child pornography
A Poinciana man was arrested on child pornography charges on Monday after detectives detected an illegal link on his computer.
Alexander Hidalgo, 41, of 212 Magellan Drive, Poinciana was charged him with 20 counts of promoting photo/movie sexual performance of a child.
The investigation began in February, when detectives identified a computer with an IP address that was linked to child pornography. On Monday, detectives executed a search warrant at Hidalgo’s home at 212 Magellan Drive in Poinciana and took into evidence various electronic devices.
Detectives took Hidalgo into custody but he did not cooperate with the investigation. Based on the evidence, Hidalgo was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges pending.
