Suspects arrested for breaking into church, stealing computers and cash

St. Cloud police arrested two people who broke into an area church and stole computers and cash.

On Sunday at about 7 a.m., officers from the St. Cloud Police Department responded to a burglary at 1717 13th St., First Baptist Church of St. Cloud. According to a police report, during the overnight hours, suspects forced entry into the church and offices, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage and making off with computers, computer accessories, cameras, cash, and other items valued at approximately $8,000.

Surveillance cameras caught the indent on tape, and investigators identified the suspects as Christopher Swanson, 26 and Yashira Ortiz-Hernandez, 25.

On Thursday, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service, Swanson and Ortiz-Hernandez were located and arrested for armed burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief to a church, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of burglary tools.
