Residents of a St. Cloud neighborhood are mourning the loss of an 11-year-old boy, the victim of a house fire in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
At around 7 a.m., St. Cloud Police Department and St. Cloud Fire Rescue responded to a residential mobile home fire at 1130 Lime Drive, about a mile and a half east of downtown and block north of 13th Street. Despite arriving within minutes, the mobile home was fully engulfed when personnel arrived on scene, St. Cloud police officials said. The fire made it impossible for rescue personnel to enter the home.
Witnesses said a neighbor attempted to get in and offer aid, but suffered burns and lacerations and was transported to St. Cloud Regional Medical Center.
The victim’s mother and teenage sister were inside the home and were able to escape the residence. The mother was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with burns and lacerations, officials said.
The State Fire Marshall is now investigating. There does not seem to be anything suspicious about the fire, local fire officials said.
The St. Cloud Police Department said it would not release the name of the victim out of respect for the family.
The Osceola County School District also did not release the name of the elementary school the victim attended but said the district will hold a vigil and make grief counselors available at the school.
