Attention tournament anglers: This just in….. Please be safe out there.

South Florida Water Management District is closing the navigational lock at the south end of Lake Toho (S-61) on Saturday, May 13th due to low water conditions which has resulted in the exposure of a sand bar at the outfall of the canal leading into Lake Cypress. The concern is boats traveling at high speeds in the canal after locking through would most likely run aground resulting in boat damage, bodily harm or both. The FWC staff on the Chain of Lakes supports the decision.

The date for reopening the locks at this point in time is unknown and will be dependent on water levels in the future which will be rainfall driven.

The closure will not allow navigation to the lower lakes of the chain from Lake Toho or vice versa. Tournaments, anglers and boaters alike will have to adjust accordingly.
