The Celebration Storm boys volleyball team earned a second consecutive trip to the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament Friday with a four-game win at Apopka in the regional play-in round.
Celebration, coached by Pedro Davila, qualified last year as well, and advanced to the championship game before falling to undefeated and nationally ranked Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons in four games.
The Storm (24-2) earned their latest state berth, this year held in Boca Raton, with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 win over Apopka. Senior Alejandro Hernandez led the way with 26 kills, and Bruno Araujo added 18. Celebration will play Archbishop McCarthy on May 10 at 6 p.m. in a state quarterfinal match. The winner gets the winner of Friday’s Belen Jesuit-Orlando Freedom game the following day at 10 a.m.
The Storm enter the tournament ranked No. 3 in Florida and No. 30 nationally by MaxPreps.
