Osceola Regional trauma center celebrates survivors

In celebration of National Trauma Awareness Month, the Osceola Regional Medical Center Trauma Center hosted an event to honor its former patients who were given a second chance at life. Trauma survivors reunited with the medical teams that cared for them to celebrate their survival.

Since receiving its designation as a Provisional Level II Trauma Center in May of 2015, the hospital has become a Certified Level II Trauma Center and has treated more than 3,000 critically injured patients.

“We are immensely proud of every survivor and our extraordinary medical staff and first responder partners who cared for them,” said Tracy Bilski, trauma medical director. “It’s our privilege to provide life-saving treatment for our community.”

Traumatic injuries are severe and sudden in nature and require immediate medical attention. Hospital officials said. Trauma is the leading cause of death among Floridians under age 44, and the state’s death rate for these patients remains higher than the national average.

“For trauma patients, immediate treatment can mean the difference between life and death,” said Davide Carbone, CEO of Osceola Regional Medical Center. “We are honored to be part of these stories – from injury to recovery, from tragedy to healing.”
