Osceola Kowboys win in Gainesville; headed to Class 6A championship game next week

It was white-knuckle time at Gainesville's Citizen Field Friday night, but the Osceola Kowboys pulled out a 41-35 win over Gainesville Buchholz in the Class 6A state semifinal.

They'll play for the championship next week, Friday the 13th, at Florida International University's Pitbull Stadium against West Boca Raton (14-0), who beat Miami Southridge, 14-13, Friday.

Plays were made all over the field. Running back Taevion Swint, who signed with UCF hours before the game, ran 18 times for 178 yards and a touchdown (and had another called back on a dubious holding penalty);

Linebacker Nathan Barnett recovered a fumble and had an interception, which led to 10 OHS points;

Fellow linebacker and Auburn signee Elijah Melendez picked off a pass and returned it 94 yards for a score in a key spot in the 3rd quarter. It was part of a five-sack, four-turnover effort from the Kowboys' defense;

Kicker Adrian Gonzalez booted a pair of field goals.

Full story to come.
