The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says it is pursuing murder charges against a Poinciana mother who deputies say drowned her 14-year-old daughter in a bathtub on Wednesday.
Kelsey Glover, 35, was initially arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery Wednesday, after deputies say she chased a live-in companion who witnessed the bathroom episode with a hammer at a home on Cambourne Drive.
After the Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on Giselle Glover Thursday and listed the cause of death as drowning and the manner of death as homicide, the Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for Kelsey Glover.
Court records show Glover is scheduled for a motion hearing on Dec. 4. Until then, she has been ordered held in the Osceola County Jail without bond.
An arrest affidavit filed in the case Thursday explained the nature of the call, noting police had to pry a hammer out of Glover's hands and that she told the victim "that she wanted to kill her," but did not go into the details surrounding the death. A court filing later Thursday gives detail into what likely sparked the incident. According to the record, the live-in companion, who assists Glover in caring for her two children, noted Glover had taken Giselle off of her insulin medication, making the girl weak and ill and have "difficultly consuming water due to it making her ill."
After the victim and accused argued about the teen needing medical assistance -- and the mother refusing to take her for medical treatment -- Glover reportedly put the girl in the bathtub, grabbed her by the hair and held her head under water. The victim was able to remove the girl from the water, the motion states, and began CPR.
Glover reportedly pushed the victim out of the bathroom to prevent any lifesaving efforts. When the victim called 911, Glover reportedly armed herself with a hammer and began to threaten the victim, who locked herself in another bathroom. "Law enforcement observed several holes in the door that were consistent with the hammer striking the door," court documents say.
The daughter was transported to Poinciana Medical Center, where police say she passed away.
