Was there a day last week gas prices didn't move?
Down a penny. Up a couple more. Down the same couple. Then bouncing back up by more than a dime closer to the weekend to settle in at $3.13 per gallon across Florida to start the new week.
Despite all the fluctuations, the week ended with just a 2-cent increase statewide, AAA noted Monday morning. That jump was more like 4 cents around Osceola in the last week (from $3.10 to $3.14) and a 7 cent jump (from $3.07) last month.
But why the fluctuations, anyway? AAA says oil prices dipped 5% last week. Friday's closing price was $67.02 per barrel. That's a $3.36 per barrel decline from last week. A small shift in demand sparked the late-week rise.
The trend could be going back down. Gasoline futures dropped 6 cents per gallon last week, AAA says, with the discounts in the fuel market reportedly driven by ongoing demand worries and a possible slowdown in U.S. interest rate cuts.
