Celebrate National Read Across America Day — it's a special birthday! Guess "Who" 's?

There is a special birthday to celebrate today ... Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

The author who gave us such classic children's titles as The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham, Theodore Geisel, was born on March 2, 1904.

In order to further reading and engaging with children in order to make reading more interactive and fun, the National Education Association (NEA) established March 2 as National Read Across America Day.

Geisel's birthday was chosen to draw in that parallel. So is there a better day than today to put on your Seuss hat and grab a classic title like The Lorax or Horton Hears a Who or Oh the Places You'll Go!

From the time when the building blocks of our character are laid, to adulthood when we seek to escape from the humdrum of daily life in the pages of a book, reading plays an integral role in shaping us into who we are. With the advent of smartphones and tablets, it is more essential than ever to motivate children to read.

So don't be one of the 24 percent of adults who might not read a book this year (that was the estimate for 2021). Read tonight ... and even better, read to your children. May we suggest the title One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish?
