Trooper helps save man's life at Kissimmee Walmart

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper helped saved a man’s life on Tuesday, after the victim was found unresponsive in a Kissimmee Walmart parking lot.

At 7:15 p.m., Trooper Joseph Santos was working a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 192 and Bass Road, near the Walmart store, 4444 W. Vine St.

While investigating the crash, Santos was approached by a bystander who informed the trooper that a man was unconscious inside a vehicle by the front doors of Walmart, according to a FHP report. Santos responded and found an unresponsive male slumped over the glove department of the vehicle. He was later identified as Jose Ortiz.

Santos found that Ortiz was not breathing and he had no pulse. Using his CPR mask, Santos administered rescue breaths and also did chest compressions until Ortiz showed signs of life by gasping for air, the report stated.

Paramedics arrived on scene and took Ortiz to Osceola Regional Medical Center. Santos later checked with Ortiz at the hospital and found that he was doing well and in recovery.
