Parent Power! The School District of Osceola County is sponsoring a program entitled Empowered Parents. facilitated by Anjanette McGee-Cason of Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System.
The Empowered Parents program will show how to maximize your child’s reading potential.
Parents will learn five components of reading, reading games and activities.
A review of Florida state standards and other helpful hints will be discussed.
Empowered Parents is for those with students in grades K to 5, and will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
This free event will be at Discovery Intermediate School, 5250 San Miguel Road.

In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Polk County Fire Rescue Station 45-Lake Marion Creek, will host an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Activities include bounce houses, kid’s firefighters challenge, Engine 8 Station Tours, safety house, first aid training and a CERT table. Meet Sparky and some firefighters – take photos!

On your mark, get set, Read! Osceola Reads Ultimate Reading Race challenge uses the free Footsteps2Brillance reading app. Children who live in Osceola County and who are ages 3 to 5 (not yet in kindergarten).
The Ultimate Reading Race awards the top four Footsteps2Brillance readers an Amazon Fire Table.
