Registered sexual offender arrested for rape of teenager

Deputies arrested a registered sexual offender for rape on Tuesday after the victim said the suspect had sex with her while she was asleep.

At about 7:05 p.m., the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a St. Cloud home after receiving a sexual battery report. Deputies talked with the 17-year-old victim who stated that Michael Lee Rhum, 35, had sex with her while she was asleep at his home on Saturday. Based on the allegations, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Sex Crimes detectives responded to investigate.

During the investigation, the victim provided more information and evidence supporting the allegations, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. Rhum was then arrested. He cooperated with the investigation and during the interview he confessed to the allegations made against him, Sheriff’s Office officials said. He was charged with two counts of sexual battery with a victim between the ages of 12-17 years of age and taken to the Osceola County Jail.

Rhum is a registered sex offender in Osceola County. He was sentenced on Sept. 29, 2014, to one year and 10 months in prison after traveling to meet a minor. Rhum was release on April 18, 2016, and his first registration with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was on April 20, 2016.

Jacob Ruiz in a press release. “The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting our children from persons who are willing to harm them”
