Register your children for youth basketball

If basketball is your child’s “thing,” there are two chances to encourage their sport. Dribble, shoot, dunk!

Poinciana Youth Sports Association (PYSA) Jr. MagicFall 2019 registration has begun.

The fall season runs from Sept. 7 to Oct. 26. The fee for early registration until July 1 is $100.  

Registration fee until Aug. 31 is $125. Late registration is open until Sept. 6 with a fee of $150. The fee includes practices, which start in July, Jr. Magic shirt and a ticket to an Orlando Magic Game. To register, go to

Motivated to Succeed presents 3-Day Basketball Camp Skills & Agility Tuesday, July 9, to Thursday, July 11. Camp tuition is $150. Camp tuition includes camp T-shirt and skill assessment. The camp will be held at the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center, 625 Country Club Drive. Registration is due by July 2. Register at the gym on July 2, at 11 a.m. or online.  The Summer Reading program blasts off from the Poinciana Branch Library on Thursday, June 13, at 6 p.m. with a visit from Florida’s most famous resident. Gatorland will bring an American alligator into the room.

Meet the knowledgeable and entertaining wrangler from Gatorland who will share stories of close encounters with this feared predator. Get ready for your own close encounter before it’s time for photos.

Sci-Fi-Friday Cinema on June 14 will be the movie “Avatar” (PG-13). Time of showing is 2 p.m.

The Silver Screen Odyssey continues on Saturday, June 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. with the movie “Home.”

Family Quest: Explorer’s Guide to the Universe happens on Tuesday, June 18, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Expand your knowledge of space with an overall look at where we are and what is out there.

Immediately following the presentation by the Central Florida Astronomical Society, you will have the chance to view the sky through their telescope.

All library programs are free and open to the public. The Poinciana Branch Library is located at 101 N. Doverplum Ave.

 Valencia College Poinciana will host a help session on Thursday, June 20, from 2 to 4 p.m.

This session will provide help on applying to Valencia and assist FAFSA/financial aid process. Additional support will be available with residency, ATLAS, online orientation and more.

This is a drop-in event. Students are asked to arrive 30 minutes in advance. Registrations are suggested for faster service.
