A foraging raccoon triggered a widespread power outage in Kissimmee this afternoon, leaving 3,218 customers of Kissimmee Utility Authority without electricity for a half hour.
The raccoon climbed onto a 13,200-volt piece of electrical equipment inside the utility’s Airport Substation at 1:38 p.m. Sunday, causing three primary feeder lines to fail. The substation, one of 10 serving the Kissimmee area, is located off Hoagland Boulevard., just south of the U.S Highway 192.
All power was restored by 2:08 p.m.
The raccoon did not survive.
