Pedestrian hit, killed on OBT after being discharged from hospital

A 56-year-old Orlando man, who was just released from a hospital, was hit and killed early Tuesday morning trying to cross Orange Blossom Trail inside Osceola County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Samuel Martinez, 80, of Kissimmee, was driving a 2014 Chrysler van southbound on OBT in the left lane at about 12:15 a.m.

A pedestrian, Albert Herbert, 56, from Orlando, who had just been discharged from AdventHealth Kissimmee and was using a walker, entered the southbound lanes of OBT and into the path of the van. When the van hit the victim, the impact threw the pedestrian into the northbound lane and was run over by a second unknown vehicle, the report stated. The second vehicle, however, did not stop.

Herbert was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information on the second unknown vehicle is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
