Osceola County’s first self-service canine wash is coming

The self-service dog wash at Furry Tails Pet Grooming offers customers a station where they can wash their dogs on their own, rather than scheduling an appointment with a professional groomer.

You may have heard of a self-service car wash.

But have you ever heard of a self-service dog wash?

Osceola County’s first self-service dog wash is coming to Poinciana’s own Furry Tails Pet Grooming this month.

The location is at 865 Cypress Parkway in Poinciana.

“This is a new trend we’ve been seeing, and we want to bring it to Poinciana,” said Leslie Miranda, Furry Tails co-owner.

The self-service dog wash offers customers a station where they can wash their dogs on their own, rather than scheduling an appointment with a professional groomer. The stations are open to anyone with small, medium or large sized dogs.

Everything you need to wash your dog — no matter the size, or amount of fur — is included in a $12 service fee. Customers have access to shampoo, conditioner, towels, etc., and even aprons to keep their own clothes from getting dirty or wet.

The most convenient part: there’s no scheduling needed. Say you visit the new dog park in Poinciana, and want to give your dog a wash before heading home. You can stop by Furry Tails without an appointment.

There won’t be a time limit either.

“We ask our customers to keep in mind that others are waiting to use the stations, but we also don’t want to rush them,” said Miranda. “We understand that all dogs are different, and each wash will take a different amount of time, whether it be 20 minutes for a small dog or 45 minutes for a bigger dog.”

After washing their dogs, customers will have the option to use a professional dryer to complete the full groom.

“People like sending their dog to a groomer because the groomer dries and fluffs the dog’s fur before it goes home,” she said. “Most people can’t dry their dogs in their house, but they will be able to dry them here.”

Miranda and her husband, Carlos Hernandez, opened Furry Tails in December 2008, after moving to Poinciana from Puerto Rico. This self-service area is part of a huge expansion, which will include an addition of retail space.

While Furry Tails already offers monthly shots and vaccines, the new space will allow the appointments to take place in their own room rather than the grooming lobby.

Miranda said she hopes to add training and classes to the space, too. Plus, there will be more opportunities for pet photography, as Furry Tails offers pet photos with Santa Claus during the holidays.
