The City of St. Cloud has announced that City Clerk Ivy Llauro has earned the Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) distinction from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). Llauro, who’s been with the city since 2006, has been the Clerk since 2022.
IIMC grants the MMC designation only to municipal clerks who, “Complete demanding education requirement and have a record of significant contributions to their local government, community and state,” documents from the city and IIMC said.
“We are proud of Ivy for earning this certification,” said City Manager Veronica Miller. “In today’s fast-paced world, government leaders must invest in lifelong learning to keep pace with the growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve.”
Kissimmee starts flood mitigation projects
Thanks to a special allocation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the City of Kissimmee is moving a pair of water projects forward to help mitigate the effects of any future storms like Hurricane Ian.
The $250,000 in added funding is supporting installing new stormwater pipes, yard drains and curb inlets in the Bermuda Estates and Lyndell Street areas. These initiatives are part of the ongoing efforts to protect neighborhoods from flooding and support recovery from past flooding events like Ian.
The work on Lyndell Street, off John Young Parkway south of Donegan, is tentatively scheduled to start in early September and focus on enhancing the existing drainage system.
The city said design work in Bermuda Estates, just north of Donegan, is nearing completion, allowing construction to start this fall. That project will address and upgrade the neighborhood’s stormwater system, including new pipes and strategically placed drains.
“System improvements will reduce the likelihood of future flooding,” said Public Works and Engineering Director Ashley Willis. “We appreciate the state’s support for the funding that has made this critical flood prevention project possible.”
