Let's try it again — Mega Millions jackpot up to $740 million after no winner Tuesday

WEDNESDAY UPDATE — There was no jackpot winner in Tuesday night's $681 million Mega Millions drawing, meaning the fully-annuitized prize goes up to $740 million on Friday night, the seventh-biggest prize in game history. The up-front cash option on that is $366.3 million.

Players in Kansas and Michigan won $1 million by matching the five white ball numbers of 12-41-43-52-55, but did not match the Mega Ball of 9.

Only two Mega Millions jackpots have been won so far this year.

TUESDAY — Can anybody out there use a few hundred million bucks?

A winning Mega Millions ticket would be worth some $681 million over 30 years, or $337.1 million up front, should it match all five numbers and a winning Mega Ball tonight (Tuesday). If there’s a big winner in tonight's drawing, it would be the seventh largest jackpot in the game’s history.

Nobody has matched all six of those numbers in the drawing since June 4, when a ticket purchased online in Illinois won the $552 million jackpot. While nobody won the estimated $627 million jackpot in the last drawing on Friday night, one player in Florida matched all five white balls to win $1 million.

Two billion-dollar jackpots were won in 2023, including a ticket bought for the Aug. 8 drawing in Neptune Beach, near Jacksonville. A jackpot worth $1.13 billion was won following the March 26, 2024, drawing, in which one winning ticket was sold in New Jersey.

The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 302,575,350. Since a ticket costs $2, players actually have what gamblers and poker players call "pot odds" on the fully-annuitized figure — meaning playing one ticket is a "good bet".

If you're playing — good luck players!
