Kissimmee man charged with attempted homicide after firing at officers

The Kissimmee Police Department charged a local man with attempted homicide on Thursday after he fired a weapon at several officers.

Police arrested 50-year-old Lance Wester after officers returned fire, striking the suspect in the leg.

According to a Kissimmee Police Department report, officers received a call from a person at a Wickham Avenue home, stating that a neighbor was threatening her husband and had brandished a weapon.

Three officers responded to the area and attempted to contact Wester, but the suspect fired at the officers.

Officers returned fire, shooting Wester in the leg.

None of the officers on scene were injured.

A call was made to 911 shortly after informing that Wester was injured inside his home needed help. The officers outside then rendered first aid, using a tourniquet to stop the bleeding while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Wester was then transported to a local hospital where he underwent treatment for his non-life-threatening injury.

He was charged with attempted homicide.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer involved shooting. The three officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, which is protocol in every officer involved shooting.
