Kissimmee convicted felon pleads guilty to possessing firearm

A Kissimmee man faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison for possessing firearms or ammunition as a convicted felon.

Giovanny Rivera-Sanchez, 38, will have a sentencing hearing on Dec. 17.

Court records show he was convicted of felonies in 20024 and 2008, and began serving a federal release term after his September 2021 release from prison. As a previously convicted felon, Rivera-Sanchez is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law, but on March 25, 2022 law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Rivera-Sanchez’s residence and located a Glock pistol and ammunition in the closet of the master bedroom — within the same room as paperwork related to Rivera-Sanchez’s federal supervision and a copy of his judgement and sentence for a prior conviction for drug trafficking. When officers interviewed Rivera-Sanchez, he stated he knew the firearm was inside his residence.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
