2 killed in U.S. 192 crash Monday after dump truck jumps median into oncoming lanes

Two people were killed in an Osceola County crash on Monday morning, after a dump truck jumped a median on U.S. Highway 192 and entered the oncoming lanes.

Emilio Puerto Hernandez, 50, of Miami, was driving a 1999 Mack dump truck westbound on U.S. 192 at about 6:50 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

For an unknown reason, Hernandez failed to halt for stopped traffic ahead at the intersection of U.S. 192 and Griffin Road. The dump truck jumped the median and traveled into the eastbound lanes, where the front of a 2017 Honda motorcycle, being driven by a 48-year-old Groveland man, struck the back of the truck.

The truck then slammed into the left side of a 1999 Honda SUV being driven by a 19-year-old Kissimmee woman.

The drivers of the motorcycle and the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. They were not identified in the report because there families had not yet been notified.

Hernandez was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against Hernandez.
