A St. Cloud police officer shot a man on Saturday after he pointed a gun toward authorities.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a home at 1100 Tennessee Avenue after receiving multiple calls about a possible suicidal person in crisis.
According to a press release, the St. Cloud Police Department has an extensive history of similar calls at this home.
Upon arrival, the suspect engaged officers with a handgun in his hand, police officials said. Verbal commands by the officers were ignored and the man raised his weapon toward the officers. One officer fired at and struck the subject. Officers immediately began to render first aid and the man was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center currently in stable condition.
The five-year veteran officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy. FDLE responded and assumed lead on the investigation.
