A 17-year-old female driver from Celebration was killed early Monday morning in Orlando when Florida Highway Patrol troopers say she was struck from behind then crashed into another car on the median.
According to an FHP report, around 3:11 a.m. the teen was driving her Dodge Caravan eastbound on State Road 408 approaching the State Road 417 in the right outside lane when it was struck from behind by a Honda Civic driven by a 35-year-old man from Orlando. The impact caused the van to rotate toward the shoulder, where three people were standing outside a Toyota Corolla on the shoulder. Then van struck the three people, injuring two critically, then crashed into the Corolla, FHP said.
The report noted the 17-year-old, who was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead on scene.
The two people injured outside the Corolla were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The Civic driver was not injured and remained on scene.
The crash, which closed eastbound 408 until just before daybreak, remains under investigation.
