Celebrate Independence Day, Christmas in July in Poinciana

Happy Independence Day and Merry Christmas!  July is just full of surprises!

The community of Poinciana held their Happy Birthday America party this past Saturday with live music, food and fireworks.  Stay cool today at one of Poinciana’s pools. The Poinciana Community Pool, 445 Marigold Ave. and the Mary Jane Arrington Aquatic Center, 625 Country Club Drive will be open. Regular rates apply.

Come celebrate Christmas in July on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Anthony DePalma Center, 395 Marigold Ave.

Put holiday spirit in the air as we enter the dog days of summer with festive music, cookie decorating, story time, crafts and more. The event will culminate with a visit from Summer Santa who will come baring gifts. Mike Spiegel Photography will provide complementary 4-by-6 photos for the party-goers to take home.      Have a safe Fourth of July and Merry Christmas in July!

 There are two classes weekly at the Poinciana Branch Library designed to teach the English language.

 ESOL beginner takes place on Mondays from 2 to 4 p.m. This class is taught by a certified instructor in partnership with the Adult Literacy League.

Everyday English class is held at the Library every Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Improve your English through communication. Practice speaking with others in a class taught by Florida State- certified teachers in partnership with the Adult Learning Center of Osceola.

Lunch & Learn: Physician Lecture Series will be held Monday, July 8, from noon to 1 p.m. Physicians from Poinciana Medical Center will be at the Poinciana Branch Library to share information on health-related issues. Drones to the Rescue is the title of this week’s Family Quest. Come join in on Tuesday, July 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Jump in the virtual pilot seat of a mini drone and have some fun! The Citizen Science GIS team from the University of Central Florida will use hands-on fun and life-learning activities to showcase how drones fly to the rescue in natural disasters.

Space Jam: A Canning Demo is a Summer Reading Club adult event which will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2 to 3 p.m. Explore the canning universe with Gabriela Murza from UF/IFAS Extension Services.  Murza will demonstrate the process of canning and provide information on long-term canning/preserving.

Adults and teens can join with the Crafty Crew on Wednesday, July 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m. This month’s craft is Recycled Magazine Basket.

Those who love to knot, crochet, cross-stitch, quilting, scrape book or any other portable craft, gather your supplies. This is a space to learn, share ideas and create while in the company of others.
