Experience Kissimmee recently presented Special Olympics Florida—Osceola County a donation of $13,500.
The donation was privately raised through the second Kissimmee Cares Golf Classic in May.
“At Experience Kissimmee, we know firsthand the impact of sports and the values they teach, including the individual commitment to a group effort,” said DT Minich, Experience Kissimmee president and CEO. “That’s why we’re so honored to provide this donation to Special Olympics Florida. We could not have done it without the support of the players, our industry partners, and sponsors of our annual Kissimmee Cares Golf Classic.”
The event was hosted May 9 by Experience Kissimmee Cares, the organization’s community relations initiative, at the Celebration Golf Club. Nearly 120 players participated in the tournament which featured 18 themed-holes and a putting contest. Additional funds were raised through raffles. All raffle and tournament prizes were donated and included gift baskets, tickets to area attractions, and accommodations.
“In Osceola County, we have 540 athletes that participate in our program at no cost. The generosity of organizations, like Experience Kissimmee, enables people with intellectual disabilities to experience the power of sports every day,” said Chris Jordan, director of Special Olympics Florida—Osceola County. “We look forward to using this generous donation to continue our efforts to make the joys and benefits of Special Olympics a reality to more athletes each year.”
The inaugural Kissimmee Cares Golf Classic, held in 2017, raised over $7,000 which was donated to the Kissimmee chapter of Fairways for Warriors.
The third annual Kissimmee Cares Golf Classic will be held May 8, 2019. Recipients of the proceeds for next year’s event will be determined through an application process, opening late 2018.
