Armed robbery suspect arrested by deputies

An armed robbery suspect was jailed on Tuesday after he attacked a woman at a Dollar Tree store.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Juan Luis Mendez.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded to 1076 Cypress Parkway, Kissimmee, after receiving a report of an armed robbery.

The victim reported she was exiting the Dollar Tree store when an unknown male with a handgun approached her. The suspect demanded her purse, but when she hesitated, he struck her in the face, the Sheriff’s Office report stated. The victim was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle involved. Responding patrol deputies were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle and obtain a positive identification from the victim.

Mendez was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail without further incident. He was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and grand theft.
