Much like bottled water and toilet paper, being able to get gas became an issue last week due to the threat of Hurricane Milton, as residents topped off tanks in order to evacuate vulnerable areas or anticipating the major storm would knock out power to stations.
Pumps around town began drying up by Tuesday, ahead of the storm's arrival Wednesday night.
As of Sunday night, state officials told AAA to expect 85% of Florida filling stations to have gasoline by Monday night, and supplies to be back to normal statewide by Wednesday morning. Florida's ports and all but two gasoline terminals are back open for tanker trucks to fill up and make round-the-clock deliveries.
Despite demand outpacing supply for a couple days, Florida gas prices are holding steady as the fuel supply chain recovers. Sunday's state average was $3.10 per gallon, and the average locally is $3.07; that's about 7 cents cheaper than a month ago and a quarter cheaper than a year ago. Many stations have regular unleaded available under $3.
