There’s a lot to celebrate at Duck Donuts in Kissimmee. On Friday, the local donut shop celebrated National Donut Day by showing some customer appreciation with free donuts.

“We’re excited to have everyone out,” said Duck Donuts Kissimmee owner Mark Griffin, during the event. “We wanted to show some customer love back.”

Griffin, a Kissimmee local in the real estate business, said owning a donut shop was never part of the plan. He and his family vacationed to the outer banks of North Carolina every summer, always making a stop at the original Duck Donuts location in Duck, North Carolina. (Hence the name, Duck Donuts.)

“We are such big fans of Duck Donuts,” he said. “We just liked the core concept, the amazing donuts, and the friendly people. It was a magical thing to do every year while we were on vacation.” Griffin said he even has photos of his children growing up year after year, Duck Donuts in hand.

“For us, it was about bringing it back to our hometown,” he said. His Kissimmee store was the first Duck Donuts to open in the state of Florida. It is now one of three Florida locations, with the others in Estero and Boca Raton.

Duck Donuts is known for its fresh, made-to-order donuts. The franchise chain is unlike traditional donut shops, in that, the donuts aren’t dropped into the fryer until they are ordered. The donuts then sit on a cooling tray for less than one minute before being topped.

Customers are able to watch their donuts get all dressed up right in front of them, with toppings like sprinkles, sugars, drizzles and more.

“It’s always hard to pick a favorite,” Griffin said, candidly. “But I’m a big fan of a couple of them. The lemon and key lime, and then of course the orange, a native for Florida.” He said some of the customer favorites are the cinnamon sugar and maple bacon.

The shop also offers breakfast-style sandwiches on a donut bun with bacon, sausage, egg and cheese, and donut ice cream sundaes (classic, salted caramel and s’mores). Plus a variety of coffee, milk, juices and soft drinks.

Up next, Duck Donuts in Kissimmee will welcome everyone back for a big party to celebrate its one-year anniversary this July.
