Osceola County will soon be an island time. Big time.

Officials officially broke ground Thursday for the Margaritaville Hotel, a 187-room hotel in the heart of the Margaritaville Resort Orlando (which actually is Osceola County), a massive $750 million resort that will include a water park, retail and dining, vacation homes and more.

Actual work on the hotel, will begin next week, with that part of the project expected to be complete November 2018.

The festive event had more than 250 attendees on site, in western Osceola County, including company executives, Osceola County commissioners and more.

“This is an exciting day for Margaritaville Resort Orlando and sharing great food, drinks and fun is the best way to celebrate breaking ground on our Margaritaville-branded hotel,” said Jim Bagley, project developer of Margaritaville Resort Orlando. “Soon travelers from all over the world can escape to paradise with an unforgettable Margaritaville vacation in the heart of Orlando.”

County Commissioners Peggy Choudry, Cheryl Grieb, Fred Hawkins Jr. and County Commission Chairman Brandon Arrington were in attendance, taking part in the fun event, and predicting the project will have a big impact on that part of the county.

The resort will be much more than a place to stay, but a destination point. Officials predict a total impact of $5 billion from the project and millions visiting each year.

When it opens in late-2018, the Margaritaville-branded hotel will immediately put guests into a vacation state of mind with some of the brand’s signature décor elements – including a giant blue flip-flop sculpture and upside-down margarita glass chandelier in the lobby. The 300-acre Margaritaville Resort Orlando will feature a wide range of amenities including 30,000 square feet of function space, 200,000 square feet of festive retail space, a dining and entertainment district, 12-acre waterpark, wellness center, miles of wooded fitness trails, a water taxi system, and a three-acre swimming area. The development will also boast 1,000 Margaritaville-inspired units including a mix of resort vacation homes, cottages, villas, and timeshare units.

Among the other recent developments at the resort: Margaritaville has partnered with Ethan Allen for the vacation homes.

Those purchasing a vacation home will have their choice of one of four new Ethan Allen themed packages.

Beach House: With weathered finishes and seashell tones, this furniture package is made for lazy days and sandy toes. Beach House offers charming, sun-kissed, cottage-style furniture with sea glass, mother-of-pearl and coral-look accent pieces.

License to Chill: License to Chill offers an easy beachcomber attitude with a sense of adventure. This look blends natural textures and warm wood finishes with energetic yellow, orange, and turquoise accents. Highlights include charming shutter-style beds and cabinets, well-built rustic wood tables, driftwood accents, and hip colorful pillows.

Son of a Sailor: With comfort as the captain, Son of a Sailor is anchored in classic nautical style, but its sights are set on a fresh modern destination. Artisan-crafted, marine-inspired treasures showcase a unique seafaring style, while hand-tailored upholstered beds and seats are dressed in wearable fabrics like vintage denims, textural twills, and chic cottons.

In Paradise: In Paradise is a timeless tropical style featuring vibrant colors and chic, casual comforts. White and wood finishes are infused with colorful accent pieces in lemon and lime, orange and teal, and palm green and Pacific blue. Laid-back, escape-worthy seats are hand-tailored in natural, feel-good fabrics and the seaside cottage styles deliver bold shapes, turned posts and hand-carved aprons.
