Worst Easter candy? Peeps, Osceola says

Peeps. They are made from sugar, corn syrup, gelatin and various food dyes. And they are the worst Easter candy, according to a recent Osceola News-Gazette poll.

We recently posed the question on the News-Gazette Facebook page and the pollsters responded. Peeps were mentioned nearly 20 times as the worst Easter candy.

“Peeps don’t need to exist. Period. End of story,” said Michelle Jones, of Kissimmee.

“Peeps. Nasty!”  said Angela Mikolajek, of

St. Cloud.

Amanda Leibe, of Harmony said, “Any flavor Peeps!”

But some defended the marshmallow candies that are shaped into chicks, bunnies and other animals.

“The Peeps. Love them,  but they stick to the Easter (basket) grass!” said Marilyn Hawkins, of Kissimmee.

Not only Peeps were frowned upon. Here were some other responses from the News-Gazette poll:

• “The worst is cheap or low-grade chocolate bunnies.”

• “Worst: black jelly beans.”

• “Black jellybeans are simply horrible.”

A few answers also targeted Cadbury cream eggs.
