ST. CLOUD NEWS — Run a 5K, help fight childhood cancer

September is Children’s Cancer Awareness Month – the time of year to honor children affected by pediatric cancer.  The Brooklyn Rose Strong 5K hosted by the Lakefront Striders, in memory of childhood cancer Brooklyn Rose Medina, is a 5K run, walk and festival on Saturday, Sept. 14 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the St. Cloud Lakefront.  The day includes a kid’s dash, vendors, food trucks, mascots, Touch-a-Truck, fire trailer & zone and raffle prizes.

All proceeds go directly to support the Cure Starts Now, pediatric cancer research. Brooklyn Rose Medina of St. Cloud, passed away on Feb. 17, 2024 at the age of 3. Brooklyn was diagnosed in April of 2023 with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). 
The Cure Starts Now is the largest funder of DIPG research in the world and provides research funding for other brain cancers such as medulloblastoma. Children are diagnosed with cancer every day and The Cure Starts Now is in the forefront of finding and funding a cure. This research focuses on innovative researchers, efficient funding and effective results.

 

The next Breakfast with the Pros presented by St. Cloud Main Street spotlights new businesses and takes place Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 8 a.m. at VFW Post 3227 across the street from City Hall. Grow your network, make new friends and start your day off right. Free breakfast is sponsored by Chick-fil-A. 

 

The Downtown St. Cloud Food and Art Festival takes place on Friday, Sept. 13 from 5-9 p.m.  This event in the Downtown Historic District is an evening of sampling from the City’s unique eateries, bars and cafes.  There will be vendors displaying their artwork. The downtown businesses will have their windows on display so shop and enjoy! A purchase of $30 buys 10 tickets/samples. It is never too early to start thinking about the St. Cloud Holiday Festival!  Registration is now open for all vendors.  The 46th Annual St. Cloud Holiday Festival takes place on Dec. 7-8. 
Local artists, crafters, vendors and food trucks gather together on the streets of downtown St. Cloud.  At this family friendly event there is something for everyone – pictures with Santa, kid’s chalk festival, local dance performances and – new this year – food truck contest.  Vendors and sponsors are needed.
