The wait is nearly over. NBA Experience at Disney Springs opens on Monday.
More than two years ago DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs) closed forever. The indoor, interactive theme park opened in 1998 and was intended to be the first of many — with a second facility that opened in Chicago in 1999.
Chicago’s location closed in 2001, but DisneyQuest at Disney Springs didn’t lock its doors until July 2017.
It wasn’t long before the building was torn down, with a new concept to be put in its place.
The all-new NBA Experience is expected to be one of the most immersive, interactive things to do at Disney Springs — an entertainment district of shopping and dining, that has undergone a huge makeover in the last several years.
NBA Experience is the product of a collaboration with the NBA and Disney. It’s expected to be a one-of-a-kind environment that features 13 interactive elements and hands-on activities, across 44,000 square feet and two floors.
Entry to NBA Experience begins with the players’ tunnel, immersing guests into life as an NBA player at an arena. Admission includes access to every activity, in any order — and guests can even go back to activities to improve their skills and performance.
Some of the activities at NBA Experience include:
A slam dunk challenge, where guests can change the height of a standard 10-foot hoop to as low as seven feet to perform their own superstar moves – captured by burst photography.
An activity that tests shooting skills with spots on a court that light up as guests move from one location to another attempting to sink as many shots as possible in 15 seconds.
A way for guests to see how they stack up to some of the world’s best basketball players by measuring their vertical leap, wingspan, shooting and dribbling.
Personalization for various activities with guests’ names and associating the activity with their favorite NBA or WNBA teams.
Real-time technology to aggregate statistics of NBA and WNBA games and players for continuous updates, while leaderboards will track top NBA Experience performers throughout each day.
