Living life after loss: Cornerstone tries to offer relief of Valentine’s Day grief

Cornerstone Hospice has scheduled an event for grieving Osceola County area residents who had loved ones that passed away.

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate and cherish the special people in your life.  But for those grieving the loss of a loved one, Valentine’s Day can be a difficult holiday.

Cornerstone Hospice has scheduled an event for Osceola County area residents to celebrate their loved ones who have passed away. The “Forever in our Hearts Celebration of Life” event will be at the Advance Community Center at 2260 E. U.S. Highway 192 Saturday, Feb. 9. The event will begin at 10 a.m.

“During this time of honoring our loved ones who have passed, we hope to reach more people in our Osceola County communities to let them know about the resources we have to provide comfort and address their needs,” said Rich Behers, spiritual care manager at Cornerstone Hospice.

This will be Cornerstone Hospice’s biggest “Celebration of Life” yet. Attendees will hear inspiring stories and passages and listen to beautiful music performed by the talented harpist Catherine Way.  Attendees also will receive mementos and share an atmosphere of joy while honoring the memories of family and friends.

Cornerstone Hospice’s bereavement services will also be available at the event. They are free and led by specially trained grief counselors. Group support and one-on-one sessions are also available.

Cornerstone staff members hoped the event will bring people great comfort. On Valentine’s Day, there can be a “void in the celebration because a loved one is gone and you may feel uncomfortable about being joyful around others when you are feeling down,” said Behers. “Forever in our Hearts Celebration of Life gives you a chance to do two things –  address your feelings of loss while, at the same time, honoring the importance your loved ones in your life.”

Cornerstone Hospice has been a part of the Osceola County community for 35 years. Its mission is to make hospice care available to every person in the community who is affected by serious illness regardless of their ability to pay. Comfort, dignity, and patient choice are Cornerstone’s top three priorities when it comes to their patients.

“The name says it all,” said Behers. “Forever in our Hearts Celebration of Life is just that, a celebration of lives well-lived.”

Anyone who has suffered a loss of a loved one is invited to attend the “Forever in our Hearts Celebration of Life” regardless if their loved one was cared for by Cornerstone Hospice.

The event is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP by Feb. 8.
