Celebration’s stay at the lacrosse playoffs might have been brief, but the progress the program has made over the past three seasons can’t be denied.
The Lady Storm (15-4) lost at Lithia Newsome, 14-7, Thursday in the first round of the state play-in series.
Celebration won the District 13 championship to advance to the playoffs for the first time, defeating Bartow, 15-5.
Charlotte Spencer scored six goals and Katie Arce added four for the Storm in the tournament championship game, which was played at Celebration two weeks ago.
Coach Beverly Alksninis said that her team ran up against a talented and experienced Newsome High squad that deserved to advance.
“Newsome’s team was deep with talent that was built through their local Hillsborough County Lacrosse Alliance league,” she said. “I am proud of my players for giving it their best shot. We are still a developing program at Celebration and we’re happy with the District 13 title.”
The Lady Storm coach said that neighboring counties have advanced lacrosse clubs and that she would like to see Osceola County foster lacrosse development in the elementary schools.
“In the meantime, I look forward to advancing our program at Celebration High  School,” she said. “There will be good things to come in 2018. Watch out for the Storm!”
The Lady Storm enjoyed their best season ever, as did the Celebration boys team that won seven matches.
