KPD’s Kicks 4 Guns set for Thursday

The Kissimmee Police Department is once again joining Crimeline and other local law enforcement agencies in the Annual Kicks 4 Guns Program.

On Aug. 16, the Kissimmee Police Department, in conjunction with Crimeline will host a Kicks 4 Guns drop off location. The Kicks 4 Guns program encourages residents to drop off unwanted guns to law enforcement, with no questions asked. The program was originally designed to get residents to trade their unwanted guns for tennis shoes.  However, it has evolved in the past few years as residents can now trade their guns for $50 gift cards to either Target or Walmart.

“This is a great opportunity for our citizens to get rid of unwanted firearms in a safe manner,” said Police Chief Jeff O’Dell.

The Kissimmee Police Department’s Kicks 4 Guns drop off location will be in the parking lot of Big Lots, 2311 W. Vine Street, in Kissimmee between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or while gift card supplies last.  All firearms should be unloaded and safely secured in a plastic bag and stored in the trunk of your vehicle.  As residents enter the drop off location, they should remain in their vehicle, leave the gun in the trunk and allow police officers to remove it. They will receive the gift card of their choice.

The gift cards were purchased with proceeds from the Kissimmee Police Department’s forfeiture fund, money seized by the Kissimmee Police Department as a result of being connected in the commission of felony crimes.
