Kissimmee man dies in crash after hitting boy on bike

A Kissimmee driver who fled after hitting a boy riding a bike on Sunday was killed after his vehicle hit a tree.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Rolando Gonzalez, 63, was traveling near the intersection of Roble Drive and Siesta Lane in a 2002 Chevy vehicle at about 6:30 p.m., when he hit a 12-year-old on a bicycle.

Gonzalez was confronted by a witness to stop and return to the scene, but he fled and struck a tree on Roble Drive. He was taken to Celebration Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt, an FHP report stated.

The boy was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
