Liberty’s boys track team has evolved into an unbeatable force at the Orange Belt Conference track meets, and it was unstoppable again Wednesday when it claimed its fourth consecutive conference championship at St. Cloud’s Gannarelli Field.

Some soccer players are born to score: meet Kaley Ward.

In fact, too many goalies have met Ms. Ward and couldn’t wait for her and her Harmony High teammates to go away.

Ward riddled the nets 54 times last season, breaking her school record of 39.

She also had 31 assists.

Fishin’ Fun

If you want to catch a lot of fish, get some worms and crickets. Bluegills and shell crackers are both on a feeding frenzy.  Both species have been hitting on the east side of Makinson Island.  ou’ll catch bluegills along the Kissimmee grass and the shell crackers are a little farther off shore, spawning on the shell beds.  I talked to one fisherman who had limited out on bluegills Monday.

Harmony lifters win

Harmony (41) won the 2A District 6 boys weightlifting meet at its gym Thursday. St. Cloud (31) was second.

Three county lifters won championships: Harmony’s Hunter Perkins (129), and St. Cloud’s Hans Schroeder (183) and Austin Ocassio (238).

They qualified for the state meet April 19 at the Kissimmee Civic Center.

The Orange Belt Conference meet is Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St. Cloud High.

Guevara scores 20

Kevin Guevara of Harmony scored 20 points for the East team at the recent Osceola County Senior All-Star basketball game.

Harmony physicals

Harmony High will hold physical day for student athletes April 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the gym.

The fee is $10. Forms will be provided on site.

OHS physical day

Osceola High will hold physical day for student athletes April 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the gym.

The fee is $25.

SC youth football

The St. Cloud Youth Football Bulldogs flag football program is holding registration for the fall season for children ages 4-15. Registration for co-ed and powderpuff leagues is available online at www.scyfbulldogs.com.

By definition, basketball coaches look for their point guards to be unselfish playmakers.  Athletes who look to dish first and score second.

Gateway’s point guard, Giovanny Guzmann, fits the definition.  He fits it so well in fact, that he is the Osceola News Gazette Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

St. Cloud High Football Coach Brad Lennox turned in his resignation to Principal Nate Fancher Tuesday, just one year after accepting the job.

“It was a series of things that happened during and after the season,” Lennox said. “It was nothing to do with effort, because anyone who knows me knows that I give full effort to the job all the time.”

The Orange Belt Conference baseball race and the tournament seedings for districts 7A-5 and 7A-6 may be settled this week as the high school baseball season enters the home stretch.

In the OBC race, both Harmony and Osceola are unbeaten.
