Osceola locked down the No. 1 seed at next week’s 7A-5 boys district basketball tournament at Gateway, but Coach Nate Alexander said that is just one important step toward success at the regional playoffs.

The Kowboys (13-8) beat Gateway, 78-63, in their last district game of the season Friday to clinch the No. 1 seed over Lake Minneola (15-9), which is No. 2.

Harmony jumped to a quick lead in winning its first two girls soccer regional playoff games, but Tuesday Lakeland George Jenkins scored first and won the Class 4A-2 regional final, 5-1, at Jenkins.

Not much separated the Harmony and Celebration boys soccer teams this season – in fact, it was just one goal, that coming off the foot of the Longhorns’ freshman Brandon Salgado in a 1-0 victory for the 4A-6 district championship on Friday.

Another member of the Osceola Kowgirls softball team made a college commitment Tuesday when Morgan Crapo signed an athletic grant to Northwest Florida State University in Niceville.

Crapo, a versatile player who pitches and plays the infield, said the quiet, rural environment surrounding the panhandle institution appealed to her.
