Osceola High’s wrestling state champion Fox Baldwin, added another honor to his growing list of accolades last week when he was named “Mr. Wrestling” by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Osceola’s Baldwin wins 3rd title; Pagan, Dominguez reach goals

Osceola County’s four state wrestling champions have two things in common: Gold medals, and being selected as the Osceola News-Gazette’s Wrestlers of the Year.

When there is so much accomplished talent in one county, it’s difficult to single out one winner, so it seemed right to not even try.

Christian Vazquez decided to try wrestling during his freshman year at Gateway High School, and if he wasn’t sure right away that it was the right sport for him, it didn’t take long to convince Panthers Coach Jon Smorin.

Make no mistake about it, when it comes to high school wrestling Osceola County has earned a reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Led by the perfect seasons from Osceola High School’s Fox Baldwin and Chris Pagan, the county accounted for four of the state’s 14 individual champions at the Class 3A state tournament Saturday at the Lakeland Center.
