Athletes from Liberty and Harmony High signed national letters of intent Wednesday and Thursday.

Liberty linebacker Mylam Peters became the first Charger to sign a football grant on National Signing Day Wednesday when he accepted an offer from Arizona Western College, a two-year school located in Yuma, Ariz.

Poinciana has a new football coach – Jeff Mathis, formerly the coach at Coral Springs Coral Glades High in Broward County.

Mathis, 33, will be at Poinciana Monday to begin his new job. He will teach math.

The Florida High School Athletic Association made it official last weekend that all of Osceola County’s public high school football programs, except Poinciana, will compete in 7A District 6 for the next two seasons.

Although the teams were placed in different districts by the FHSAA last month, an appeal by Osceola County Coordinator of Athletics Ryan Adams on behalf of the county schools should be approved this weekend, he said, returning most of the local teams to 7A-6 for the next two seasons.

When the Florida High School Athletic Association announced its tentative revised districts for the 2013-14 football seasons last month, Osceola County high schools were divided among four districts.
