St. Cloud Main Street is about to add a little color to downtown.
It will host its first chalk art festival in downtown St. Cloud in conjunction with the Fall Frenzy Oct. 22. Participants will be provided with chalk;  however, those using a unique or dominant color are encouraged to bring their own color/chalk supplies to insure it is available.
It will be from from noon to 10 p.m. Artists will need to register between 10 a.m. and noon. Applications are due by Saturday. All applicants will then receive a confirmation email with more details.
While participants do not have to pay a fee, each entry is required to secure a sponsor for a square. Sponsors can include local businesses, families or individuals.
Participants in the main competition and school groups are required to secure a $50 sponsor, while children may secure a $25 sponsor. Corporate entries sponsoring staff individuals/ teams in the main competition must pay a $150 fee and will also have their banner displayed at the event. The chalk artist will be responsible for displaying the sponsor’s name above the designated square prior to the start of the competition. Each sponsor also will be listed in the chalk festival programming.
Judging will be at 6 p.m. Judges will be chosen based on categories and will vary from participating artists, school teachers, gallery owners and additional professionals in the art field from the community.
Prizes will be awarded to first-place winners only; awards will be given to first through third-place and a certificate/ribbon will be given to all participants.
First-place winners in the main competition will receive cash prize and have their art featured in public areas. First-place winners in each school group (high, middle, elementary) will have the opportunity to recreate their work on downtown property for a full year. And first-place winners in the children’s competition will receive a gift basket for the family, which includes gift certificates.
