The Florida Christian College basketball team will be busy this weekend participating in the Nike Championship Coaches Clinic at UCF.
Several of the nation’s top college basketball coaches, including Michigan State’s Tim Izzo and West Virginia’s Bob Huggins, will be among the speakers.
About 400 coaches are expected to attend.
The FCC players perform demonstrations during the clinic to aid the coaches’ presentations, Suns Coach Jake Deer said.
The Suns began practice for the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association season Monday.
Last week, Orlando Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy addressed the team.
“He came to speak about pursuing excellence on and off the court,” Deer said. “Coach Van Gundy did a great job of emphasizing the importance of having a team-first attitude which is so important in small college sports.”
The Suns recently traveled to Port Charlotte to host a clinic at New Day Christian Church.
Point guard Montique Lynch, the team captain, said, “I enjoyed this experience. Just helping the kids, it feels to good to give back. It humbles me.”
The Suns open Nov. 1 against Southeastern University. The team competes in the NCCAA South Region.
